Having sent appropriate messages to MP's on your list designated as 'Europhile' we have had some rather indignant reactions from two of the recipients:
1) Sir Patrick Cormack quote: "I am not, and never been an enthusiast for the Euro and strongly support the policy of the Conservative Party on this issue"
2) Michael Jack, quote: "My stance has been to support William Hague at both the European elections and in the context of his Party Conference speech in respect of the Party's position on Europe".
We hope you will correct these fundamental errors in Candidlist as soon as possible in order to avoid further embarrassment.
Yours sincerely,
Wilfrid Smith

Dear Mr Smith,
Many thanks for your e-mail dated the the 20th October 1999. In the light of the information you provide, I have reclassified the two MPs to don't know.
I do not see anything in the statements you supply to classify them as anything else. According to our web page, a don't know classification means:
Either: (a) has avoided stating a clear position; or (b) will take the Party line regardless of content; or (c) we have no information and are actively seeking it.Yours sincerely,
Dr Sean Gabb
