A Note on Sean Holden

Since I agree with William Hague on the single currency you had best put me in the same category as he.  I see a single currency as an essential step towards a federal Europe. I do not wish to take that step and I do not wish to be part of a United States of  Europe. I hope these bare statements are clear.

Dear Mr Holden,

Your "bare statements" are perfectly clear.  I have retained your listing as a don't know, but am grateful for your supplying us with evidence of this that can be published.

Yours sincerely,

If my statements are clear why have you left me as a don't know? I most certainly do know. Just to state it categorically I should have thought the sceptic category was obviously where I belonged. Nevertheless you, whoever you are, seem to feel you know my mind better than I do. I had hoped to help you to put things right but I can't be spending any more time writing to you.

Dear Mr Holden,

I have received your e-mail of today's date.  If I have misunderstood you in any way, please do accept my apologies.  You have a right to know how we make our classifications, so allow us to put our "Test" to candidates:

1) If elected or re-elected to Parliament, would you oppose our joining the Eurozone even if joining were to be recommended by the Party leadership?

2) If elected or re-elected to Parliament and required to choose between accepting the supremacy of European Union law in this country and leaving the European Union, would you vote for British withdrawal?

If you cannot answer both of the above in the affirmative, do you accept the line currently taken by William Hague, which is to oppose our joining the Eurozone for this and for the next Parliament and to resist any further British integration into the European Union?

If you can answer the first two questions in the affirmative, we will reclassify you as a sceptic.  If you rely on the third paragraph, we will, in the absence of other information about you, leave you as a don't know.

I look forward to any comments that you may care to make.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Sean Gabb
