E-mail Dated Sunday the 11th June 2000,
Dear Candidlist Although I am pleased to be classified already as Euro sceptic, for the purposes of the Candidlist, I thought it would be helpful to clarify my views on Europe: 1. I am utterly opposed to the Single Currency as a matter of principle and will always vote against its introduction. Abolition of the pound would destroy the constitutional fabric of our country. I support retaining the pound in principle. 2. If elected, or in any position of authority, I would always choose the supremacy of the British Parliament over the supremacy of EU Law. If because of any EU treaty etc, the UK Parliament was no longer sovereign, I would vote for withdrawal. 3. I support re-negotiation of our relationship with the European Union in order to retain our national sovereignty and to repatriate powers lost to Brussels. 4. Britain should be required by law to carry out an annual cost benefit analysis of its membership of the EU and a cost benefit analysis of potential membership of NAFTA. I hope that is helpful. Robert Halfon
