I want Britain to stay in the EU.

Our prosperity is based on trade and we would be foolish to turn our back on the largest market in the world. I am also committed to Britain remaining an independent state and reject the idea of a federal Europe. I believe we have reached the high tide of integration with Europe and do not wish any more of Britain's rights or powers signed over to Brussels. I am no little Englander, but I am no little Europeaner either. I want to see a broader Europe in which the former communist nations are full members of a trading community. Britain should strive not only for a genuine single market in Europe but for free trade between all nations. It is only by removing artificial trade barriers that developing countries will prosper.

I am sceptical of the Euro and fully support William Hague's policy of keeping the pound for this parliament and the next. Joining the Euro is an irreversible decision and requires consideration over a lengthy period. We need to be certain that it works in Britain's economic interests and that it doesn't lead to political union. While no sensible politician should say "never" to such an issue, the more I see how the Euro is working the less I like it.

Comment on the Above:

The Candidlist questions are:

1) If elected or re-elected to Parliament, would you oppose our joining the Eurozone even if joining were to be recommended by the Party leadership?

2) If elected or re-elected to Parliament and required to choose between accepting the supremacy of European Union law in this country and leaving the European Union, would you vote for British withdrawal?

Mr Fox has not answered these, and so does not qualify as a sceptic. Instead, he has expressed support for the current party line.
