A Note on Fiona Buxton

I really do not understand why I am categorised in as a "Europhile". Perhaps you could enlighten me. I shall be joining with other disgruntled candidates who have been misrepresented by your indirect and inaccurate factfinding to protest publically against the way you manage this site.

Ever considered asking people directly what they think?

Dear Ms Buxton,

I have received your e-mail dated Monday the 8th November 1999.

Our designation is based on information received from from people who worked with you in the Bow Group.  Given that you have taken the trouble to contact Candidlist I am delighted to comply with your suggestion that you be asked for your views on Europe directly.  Please tell us and include, where possible, documentary evidence and testimonials to support your claims.

Or you may care to answer the following:

Do you believe in never joining the Euro whatever the opinion of the Party leadership?

If the European Union gave the UK a choice: accept the supremacy of EU law or leave the EU, would you be prepared to see Britain leave?

I look forward to your response.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Sean Gabb

Dear Dr Gabb,

I am not a supporter of further integration into the EU. For example, I believe that the Common Agricultural Policy has been a disaster and exemplifies the problems with the type of centralised planning associated with EU policies.

I fully support William Hague's current policy  on the single currency. As a potential candidate, I believe  MPs are elected largely on the basis of the manifesto package proposed by their party. I feel it is therefore incumbent on any representative with integrity to follow the party line where votes are whipped (apart from exceptional cases affecting a constituency, and then only with the full support of their local party organisation - I doubt bucking the party line on Europe would come into that category. Is that
enough caveats?).

On this basis, I think your original classification of my views as  (?) was right - and would be pleased if you would re-instate that classification, though on the basis of knowledge, rather than uncertainty!
