Londoner's Diary: Web Of Intrigue
 
THE CANDIDLIST, a website which names and shames Europhile Conservative election candidates, has scored an embarrassing own goal. Ian Bruce MP is still fuming at being labelled a Europhile on the site. 'I hope you are very rich,' he emailed webmaster Sean Gabb. 'Would you please let me both have a note of your postal address and where you would like me to serve court papers on you.'

Gabb declared himself 'astonished by the tone of email', and demanded a clarification of Bruce's views on Europe. But, by now, the MP was feeling bellicose. 'The clock is ticking,' he fumed, 'action this day. Let me make this easy for you... I will campaign tirelessly to retain the pound.'

Gabb wearily hoisted the white flag. 'I will make this reclassification before I go to bed tonight,' he replied.#
